The post-WWII baby boom generation is getting older and this means looming health problems. It is a prime reason for expecting strong medical-care and nursing home construction in the years ahead.

Baby boomers (of which I am in the vanguard) like to think that they are in better shape for their age than previous generations. However, the years do, inevitably and inexorably, take their toll.

Speaking from experience, at a certain age, parts of the body start to sag, creak or droop. Knee and hip replacements and cataract surgery are the front-line skirmishes in the war to stay in good health. The battles get more serious from then on.

In addition, there’s the whole matter of memory loss as one grows older. The other night, my wife and I were out having dinner with another couple who are about the same age as ourselves.

At one point, the other gentleman mentioned that they had recently seen a great movie, but he couldn’t recall its title.

“What’s the name of the flower that’s often red, is very pretty, but has thorns?” he asked.

“You mean a rose,” I said.

“Yes, that’s it!”

Then he turned to his wife and said, “Rose, what was the name of that movie we saw the other night?”

Now where was I?
